Tomasso’s Restaurant

Tomasso’s Italian Grille is located on a main street in downtown Trenton, Ontario. It is also flanked by the Trent River to the east and a new pedestrian square. Building Arts Architects imagined, designed and proposed this new pedestrian square to the City of Quinte West. The vision was appreciated and shared by various levels of municipal government and was implemented shortly thereafter. Building Arts Architects collaborated with city officials on the design and development of this new vibrant public space.

Tomasso’s has been expanding and renovating through a phased design and construction process. A narrow adjacent building (formerly an alley way) was connected to the main dining room via two large masonry openings. The design aimed to reinstate the alley connection between the main street and waterfront by providing extensive glazing and a large operable wall opening out onto a new raised riverside patio space. The reinstatement of the alley connection allows patrons to enjoy an outdoor dining experience while being indoors. Raw materials such as exposed brick, steel, copper and bronze were used to impart an aged and weathered character on this new space.
